What you’ll do

  • Merhaba and Welcome to TurkeyMerhaba and Welcome to Turkey! This expedition kicks off in Istanbul, the continent-straddling metropolis that the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans have previously all called home. After transferring and settling in, you will freshen up and meet your new travel buddies and commence your journey together. Tonight, you’ll hit the streets of Istanbul in the neighborhood of Beyoglu where your local guide will help you navigate Istanbul’s street food scene. You will sample local snacks and favorites by visiting traditional food stalls and shops. You will also have the chance to sample some raki, a local Turkish spirit, and toast to an extraordinary adventure to come. Overnight in Istanbul
  • Today you will take a trip through…Today you will take a trip through time as you will explore how Turkey’s ancient past has blended in with the current day. You will start your tour of Istanbul’s old town with a visit to the Hagia Sophia, also known as the Holy Grand Mosque. Hagia Sophia is a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture and your guide will take you on a trip through the centuries while describing the Mosque’s fascinating transformation from a church to a mosque, then a museum, and recently back to a mosque again. Your journey continues to the Blue Mosque, one of the most striking sights in Istanbul with its iconic blue tiles, 260 windows, and 6 minarets. The end of your day examines how time has stood still in this ancient land. You will walk through the Hippodrome, a charming promenade where locals congregate but were once the site for chariot races 1000 years ago. Then you will explore the Grand Bazaar where your guide will help you navigate its maze of stalls to search out treasures as many others have for hundreds of years. You will cap it all off with a short cruise on the Bosphorus, where you will have the wind at your back and surrounded by stunning views of Istanbul all around you. Overnight in Istanbul
  • Today you will say goodbye to the…Today you will say goodbye to the hustle and bustle of Istanbul and make way to Ayvalik, a charming little seaside town perched on the Aegean Coast. Surrounded by olive tree groves that produce some of the best olive oil in Turkey and meandering village alleyways that all seem to always lead to the sea, Ayvalik boasts an ambiance that one could describe as quintessential Aegean. Your local guide will lead you around the town on a village walking tour to discover all of its hidden gems. The rest of the afternoon will be at leisure to relax and explore on your own. Overnight in Ayvalik
  • This morning you will head to Izmir…This morning you will head to Izmir and the historic city of Selcuk. Along the way, you’ll visit a tiny village on the outskirts of a town called Kucukkoy, a small community of local artists and laid back cafe life. You’ll pop in for a coffee and check out a few shops and galleries before hitting the road. In the late morning, you’ll arrive at Ephesus, Europe’s most intact classical metropolis. The ruins of Ephesus truly makes the Greco-Roman world come alive as you will traverse the ancient city and reach the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Once the largest manmade structure on Earth, the Temple of Artemis was completely rebuilt twice, once after a great flood and the second time destroyed by an East Germanic tribe in 401 AD. Overnight in Selcuk
  • After breakfast, you will set off for…After breakfast, you will set off for a day trip to Pamukkale to check out the petrified waterfalls and ancient city of Hierapolis. On arrival at Hierapolis, you will first walk through the over 1200 graves over the Necropolis (cemetery) and see the old ruined Roman baths. Next, you will head towards Pamukkale. Pamukkale, which translates to ‘Cotton Palace,’ is an oddly beautiful sight of petrified waterfalls that flow into a series of terraced basins. The calcite-laden waters immerge from a hot spring that was once used as thermal spas in antiquity. The ruined baths are still surrounded by temples and Greek monuments to this day. In the afternoon you will return to Selcuk where you will have the afternoon to relax. Overnight in Selcuk

Common questions

How does this work?

You start the trip and pick possible dates. Friends commit by putting a card on file — $0 charged today. Once 8 friends commit and ops confirms, the trip locks in and we capture a 25% deposit. If we don't hit 8 in time, every hold is released and nothing happens.

When am I actually charged?

Only if the trip locks in (8 friends commit) AND TrovaTrip ops confirms the booking. Until then your card is just authorized — no money moves. At lock-in we capture a 25% deposit; the remainder is due ~60 days before departure, same as any TrovaTrip trip.

What if we don’t get enough friends to commit?

If we don’t hit 8 commitments before the window closes, every hold is released automatically. $0 charged, the trip just doesn’t happen.

Can I cancel after I commit?

Yes — anytime before lock-in your hold is released, no questions asked. After lock-in (and once the deposit is captured), standard TrovaTrip cancellation policy applies based on how close to departure you are.

Does the price change as more friends join?

On trips with group discounts, yes — the more friends commit, the lower everyone's price. The final price is set at lock-in based on the size of the group at that moment. Everyone pays the same.

What if I want different dates than the group?

When you commit you pick which of the proposed dates work for you. If the group lands on a date you can't do, your hold is released and you're under no obligation.

Who's actually running the trip?

TrovaTrip handles all the logistics — flights, hotels, guides, on-the-ground operator (Intrepid Turkey for this one). We've run thousands of group trips across 80+ countries. Once your group locks in, our ops team takes over and you get a real human point of contact.

Do I need a TrovaTrip account?

To start a trip, yes — that's how we know who to coordinate with. To commit as a friend you can do it as a guest (just email + card), or sign up — whichever's easier.
